Palestine: Masses Rise Up after the Killing by Burning Alive of Palestinian Youth

by Yossi Schwartz, Internationalist Socialist League (RCIT-Section in Israel/Occupied Palestine), 6.7.2014,www.thecommunists.netand www.the-isleague.com

The kidnapping and killing by burning alive of Mohammed Khdair, a 17-year-old Palestinian teenager, last Wednesday led to some of the sharpest clashes since the year 2000. Palestinians in Jerusalem and in cities in the north of Israel – which is all Palestinian lands occupied since 1948 – have fought on the streets for several days now against the forces of oppression. These clashes are raising fear in the hearts both of the Israeli government and of the Palestinian Authority of a new intifada against Israel and the PA. Read more »

Occupied Palestine/Israel: Enough with Symbolic Protests! For an Authentic Popular Struggle!

Drawing Conclusions – and the Change in Direction that They Dictate

Statement of the International Socialist League (ISL) the RCIT’s Section in Israel/Occupied Palestine, on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the first Land Day (1976),www.the-isleague.comand www.thecommunists.net

The 30th of March – Land Day – has become a symbol for the mass struggle of the Palestinians, citizens of the apartheid Zionist state, against dispossession and oppression. The key question before political activists who oppose both oppression and the regime’s attacks upon their standard of living and democratic rights is how to turn this vital symbol into a winnable struggle. To do so, we must first draw revolutionary conclusions about the political situation throughout the world, across our region, and locally at home. If we won’t reach such conclusions and then act according to what they dictate, Land Day will be relegated to remaining nothing more than a symbolic struggle. Read more »

Long Live International Women’s Day!

The only solution to violence and discriminationa socialist revolution!

By Hila Slutsky and Boris Hammerschlag

Today, March 8th, is International Women’s Day. This day, steeped as it is in socialist tradition for more than a century, has two visages. On the one hand, this is a day when women all over the world celebrate the achievements of their struggle for full equality with men and against all forms of discrimination and violence against themselves. On the other hand, this is a day when women look a harsh reality straight in the eye and define their goals for the future – a critical examination which will lead, in the final analysis, to the next social revolution, one which will eliminate all forms of oppression, non-equality, and violence among women and men. This will be the socialist revolution. Read more »

Egypt will hold a referendum on its newly-drafted constitution on January 14thand 15th. The vote will be the first stage of what it is called the political “road map” outlined by the Egyptian army after it overthrew Mohamed Morsi, the country’s first democratically-elected president, on 3rdJuly 2013. While we in the RCIT opposed Morsi’s rule and supported the progressive mass protests against him, wetotally opposedhis removal by the army. He was deposed by the army because the US and the Egyptian generals couldn’t trust him to put down the popular revolution.  Read more »

Israel: Release All Palestinians Political Prisoners!

This week Israel released 26 long-term Palestinian prisoners, the third group of four that she has been forced to release under American pressure. Most of the 26 were imprisoned for more than 20 years. Their release is part of an American-brokered deal, a condition for the current round of the farce known as the “peace negotiations.” US Secretary of State John Kerry’s plan for “peace” between Israel and the Palestinian Authority is part of a Pax Americana for the entire region, and is presented as a plan that will integrate West Bank security units in a planned US-led, anti-Al Qaeda regional force. Simply speaking, it is a plan whereby US imperialism gets to control the region, and is thus part of the Western counter-revolutionary assault on the revolution in Egypt and other Arab states. The current Israeli attack on the Palestinians in Gaza began on last Friday, December 20, when Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian and injured four others, who – according to the Israeli army famous for telling lies – were planning terrorist attacks. As a matter of fact, according to Haaretz, the Israeli army shot last Friday people who demonstrated against Israel killing of Palestinians in the West Bank. “Gaza’s Hamas-run government usually maintains a large police force in the area whose sole purpose is to prevent Palestinians from coming too near the Israeli border and to thwart rocket launches from the Strip. This time, however, it permitted the demonstrations, apparently out of a desire to allow Gaza residents to let off steam in light of the worsening situation in the Strip.“ (1) Read more »

The Myth of Assad’s Syria as an Anti-Imperialist Regime

Western imperialists and some Arab states — the so-called “Friends of Syria,” which include the US, France, Britain, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Qatar, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates — would like to impose a transitional government composed of the pro-Western groups in the opposition as well as participation of the Baathist regime (with or without Assad himself); the Islamists oppose the entire idea of the Geneva conference aimed at achieving such a transitional government. So far, at least 3 Ethiopian workers were killed and 68 injured in clashes between the police and migrant workers resisting or protesting their arrest. According to reports from Arab newspapers, about 20.000 migrants have been arrested until now, half of them women. Some reports suggest Saudi civilians armed with knives and iron bars have joined the onslaught, claiming to protect their property from the rioters.[1] [2] Read more »

Open Letter on the Arab Revolution

The Arab Revolution is a central touchstone for socialists!

Open Letter to All Revolutionary Organizations and Activists

Issued by the Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT)

4.10.2013

www.thecommunists.net

The Arab Revolution is the sharpest political expression of the deep social contradictions inherent to the new historic revolutionary period that began in 2008. The fundamental tendencies inherent to capitalism – decay and collapse – have accelerated. The world economy is infected by the highly instable temperature curve of financial bubbles, debt traps, crises of over-production whose fundamental cause are the crisis of capitalist over-accumulation and the tendency of the rate of profit to fall. Social crises, mass unemployment, and the destruction of the environment are consequently accelerating. Concomitant with these developments, are the end of the absolute hegemony of US imperialism and the emergence of new imperialist powers – in particular China – as well as the increasing inner-imperialist rivalry. Against this background, the sentiment of unrest and rebellion amongst the workers, poor, as well as the middle class is spreading throughout the world. Read more »

Syria: Against Assad and Against Imperialism – Victory to the Revolution!

For International Solidarity with the Popular Revolution against the murderous Assad Dictatorship! But Without and Against any Western Imperialist Military Intervention!

Statement of the Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT), 27.8.2013

1. The workers and peasants in Syria are bearing terrible misery day-to-day by the hands of the murderous Assad Dictatorship. More than 100.000 people have already been killed since the revolution started in March 2011. The latest slaughter of up to 1.300 people – most of them women and children – by a chemical weapons attack against the rebel-held territory in Ghouta, an area northeast of Damascus, is only the latest and particularly revolting massacre which the Russian-backed Assad regime has committed. Various imperialist Western Great Powers – in particular the USA, Britain and France – have hypocritically denounced this latest chemical weapons attack of Assad and threaten with a limited military strike. The RCIT affirms its support for the popular revolution against the reactionary Assad dictatorship. Read more »

The military coup in Egypt is not only a setback for the Egyptian revolution but for the Palestinians struggle as well. As Fox News has reported:

“Egypt’s new government has imposed the toughest border restrictions on the Hamas-run Gaza Strip in years, sealing smuggling tunnels, blocking most passenger traffic and causing millions of dollars in economic losses. Some in Hamas fear the movement is being swept up in the same Egyptian military campaign that earlier this month toppled the country’s democratically elected Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi — like the Gaza rulers part of the region’s Muslim Brotherhood.” (1) Read more »

On Fossil Fuels and Revolutionary Awareness

by Ophira Gamliel, Rehovot, Israel

Fossil fuels are an essential element in the analysis of modern production and economy. They have played a vital role in the rise of capitalism and its spread all over the world. It is difficult to imagine the immense success of capitalism and its capacity to recover from its cyclical crises without the never-ending flow of cheap energy feeding an ever-increasing production of goods to meet the demand of an ever-growing market. Preface of the Editorial Board: The following document by comrade Yossi Schwartz analyzes the character and background of the 1967 Israeli warin. He elaborates the approach of Marxists who ought to have stood for the defeat of Israel and military victory for the Arab States without, at the same time, giving any political support to the Arab regimes. In an appendix, Schwartz critically examines the position of the Israeli Socialist Organization (ISO), better known as Matzpen, regarding the Six-Day War of 1967. Read more »

The Palestinian Revolution has been a central issue of the international class struggle for more than half a century. The reason is that it constitutes one of the biggest crimes of imperialism in the 20th century. It symbolizes the barbarism of the imperialist Great Powers who expel a whole people from its historic homeland by the artificial creation of a colonial settler state in order to control a geo-strategically highly important region – the Middle East. Israel’s War of 1948 and the Degeneration of the Fourth International

By Yossi Schwartz

Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT)

May 2013

Preface of the Editorial Board: The following document from comrade Yossi Schwartz is a major contribution in two respects. First it outlines the Marxist position on the colonial settler state Israel, its emergence and its reactionary war in 1948 – called by the Zionists in true Orwellian-speak “Independence War”. Additionally, the document is also important for understanding the history of the Fourth International’s position on Zionism and the national liberation struggle in Palestine. In particular comrade Schwartz demonstrates that the small Trotskyist forces in Palestine under the leadership of Tony Cliff (who later became the founder of the centrist International Socialists tendency respective the Socialist Workers Party in Britain) never understood the national question in Palestine and failed to take a revolutionary stand. It was one of the first expressions of the process of its centrist degeneration that the Fourth International failed to take a revolutionary defeatist position against Israel in its War in 1948 and a revolutionary defensist position for the Arab countries. Victory! The Israeli state was forced to release resistance fighter Samer Issawi

Issawi was originally arrested in 2002, for holding a rifle without a license. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was released in October 2011 as part of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange. Israel however has never intended to respect this agreement and in its attempt to teach the Palestinians who is the master it re-arrested Issawi, along many others, who were released in the exchange deal. Brother Samer was arrested just months after he was released and the Zionist state, accused him of violating his terms of release by traveling outside his home village of Issawiyeh. The intention of the Zionist state was to force him to serve the full 30 years as part of the lesson that the oppressed cannot win against Israel. Read more »

Turkey, Syria and Egypt: No Political Support for Bourgeois Forces Secular or Islamists

Turkey under the Islamist government is playing an important role in the imperialist strategy in the region in this period of the Arab revolution. Since the beginning of the Arab revolution in Syria in 2011 the US and other imperialists have been seeking a policy of breaking Syria from Iran. Such a schism between Damascus and Tehran would change the Middle East’s strategic balance in favor of the US and Israel. The reconciliation between the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Justice and Development Party’s (AKP) and the Kurdish Workers Party (PKK) is related to the new role Turkey is playing in relations to Iran. Cyprus: General Strike against EU Troika Diktat and Austerity Program!

Resolution by the Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT) and the Internationalist Socialist League (Israel/Occupied Palestine), 28.3.2013

1. The recent EU/IMF bailout agreement with Cypriot government is nothing but an imperialist program of financial enslavement of the working people of Cyprus. Its immediate consequences are mass sackings of thousands of workers, privatizations and the de facto confiscation of pension and provident funds. It will deepen the capitalist crisis in the country and throw huge masses into poverty. It shows once more that the European Union and the Eurogroup are nothing but imperialist instruments. The Cypriot working class must mobilize for a General Strike against the bailout agreement and its consequences. They must fight for a program of expropriation of the banks, corporations and super-rich. The European workers movement must mobilize in solidarity with the people in Cyprus and fight against the Troika diktat! Read more »
