In a TV interview aired last night, Talal Nasser, a spokesman for Hamas in Damascus, has expressed his full support for glorious uprising of the Syrian revolutionaries. “We salute the blessed Syrian Revolution!” He welcomed the offensive of the rebels and the liberation of Aleppo. He strongly denounced the brutal dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad who has slaughtered his own people with bombs and chemical weapons. [1]
The Hamas leader also ridiculed the claim that the uprising would be an “American-Zionist conspiracy”. He pointed out that the Assad regime has not lifted a finger to fight against Israel or to defend the Lebanese people. He said: “Anyone who ensures Bashar’s survival, by God and Allah, does not want Palestine to be liberated!”
Talal Nasser lauded the Syrian revolutionaries and people as steadfast supporters of the Palestinian liberation struggle. He reported that Hamas has been in regular contact with the Syrian revolutionaries and that the mujahedeen freed various Palestinian political prisoners who had been incarcerated in Aleppo prison by the regime.
He also warned the Iraqi militia troops which have been sent to Syria to safe the Assad regime to return to their homes.
This is a development of tremendous significance as it reflects the unity of the liberation movements in Palestine and Syria who are heroically fighting against occupation and oppression. It is symbolic that the Syrian revolutionaries have raised the flags of Palestine and Free Syria at the historic citadel in the centre of Aleppo. (See the picture below.)
The Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT) strongly welcomes this statement of the Hamas leader. We have supported the Palestinian liberation struggle as well as the Syrian Revolution from the very beginning. Our comrades on all continents are active in the solidarity movement and advocate a socialist and anti-imperialist program. [2]
There are certainly many things to say about the consequences of this statement. At this point we limit ourselves to only one conclusion. We don’t need an “Axis of Fake Resistance” with figures like Assad and led by the Mullah dictators in Teheran. We rather need an authentic “Axis of Struggle” which fights for the liberation of Palestine, the overthrow of all tyrants and the expulsion of all Great Powers from the region.
Down with the Assad tyranny! Long live the Syrian Revolution!
Defeat the Zionist monster! For a free and red Palestine from the River to the Sea! Victory to the Palestinian Resistance!
