With the start of Ramadan this week, the defense establishment fears that it will be even more explosive than during the war. Government decisions, the strengthening of settler terrorism, and the worsening economic distress are raising tensions, and senior officers are warning that the Palestinian street could escalate into large-scale clashes with military forces.
The senior officers define the upcoming month of Ramadan, which will begin this week, as a sensitive test point for relations between the Palestinians and the Zionist forces right now – four months after the ceasefire – the Zionist army believes that the security situation is more fragile and complicated. A series of security incidents, political decisions perceived as weakening the Palestinian Authority, and worsening economic distress – all of these raise tensions. Senior officers even warn in closed discussions that the Palestinian street, which has so far not mobilized en masse for the protests, is liable to clash with the army during Ramadan.
It won’t be easy to revolt. In recent days, armed Zionist forces in the West Bank have been reinforced in preparation for Ramadan. Alongside the 21 battalions already deployed in the field, soldiers from the Commando Brigade and four other battalions joined. The activities include the destruction of infrastructure, and the increase in the rate of arrests of activists against the oppression of the Zionist state.
The fear of Ramadan stems on the one hand from the government’s moves, and on the other hand, from broader regional scenarios such as Iranian missiles on Israel along with the activities of the Houthis and Hezbollah.
It seems that while senior military officers fear a popular uprising, Netanyahu’s government is pushing for this uprising in order to suppress it with great force, killing children, women and the elderly alongside men. The interest of the world working class in the event of an uprising and with it an attack on Israel by Iran is a revolutionary defeat for Israel.
