Trump is in a trap

Trump is in a trap: on the one hand, he wants to get out of the war that Netanyahu dragged him into, and on the other hand, he doesn’t want it to look like he actually lost the war. He is not willing to lift the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, but the Iranians are not willing to negotiate as long as the American warships continue the blockade. The only thing left for him is to extend the ceasefire in the hope that the conciliatory wing of the Iranian leadership, which includes the Iranian president, will agree to his proposals. However, he is mistaken and misleading, the same as he believed that the Iranian people would revolt against the regime, while the United States and Israel attacked the Iranian state. The Revolutionary Guards have the power to decide and Iran’s Supreme Leader is with them, and they do not give in to his demands. Therefore, it remains for him to say that he is prolonging the ceasefire until a cohesive leadership is formed.

He wrote  on the TRUTH Social website, “Iran does not want the Strait of Hormuz to be closed, they want it to be opened so that they can make $500 million a day,”  they say, that the strait will be closed because it was blocked by the U.S. under the blockade, “to save their honor.” “People approached me four days ago and said, ‘Sir, Iran wants to open the strait immediately,’ but if we do that, there will never be a deal with Iran unless we blow up the rest of their country, including their leaders!” [i]

“Trump announced that the ceasefire between the United States and Iran will continue until further notice, in order to allow Iran to formulate its position in the negotiations. The president published his statement on the social network Truth Social after hours of an exchange of threats between the United States and Iran, during which representatives of the countries did not confirm their arrival in Pakistan for the talks, which were supposed to take place tomorrow. “We were asked not to renew our attacks until Iran formulates an answer. I have ordered the military to continue the naval blockade and remain prepared to attack,” Trump added[ii].

“According to CNN, the U.S. stockpile of missiles could run out if another war breaks out. The U.S. military has significantly depleted its stockpile of key missiles during the war with Iran, creating a “long-term risk. During the last seven weeks of the war, the U.S. military has used about 45 percent of its stockpile of precision strike missiles, at least half of its stockpile of ballistic missile interceptors, and nearly half of its stockpile of Patriot-type air defense interceptors, according to a new analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.”

If Trump will continue the war the US will lose this war as it happened in Afghanistan. The winning of Iran in this war is encouraging Hamas and Hezbollah to stand up against the demand to be disarmed. It is possible that a new intifada is in the making. In Israel the Likud coalition is to lose the elections according to public polls. Israel has never been so isolated as a result of the war against Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. A Bennett government may be less corrupt, but not less right wing.
