Over the weekend, the tense relations between the United States and Israel over the Zionist attack in northern Syria were revealed, a week ago. Israel claims, as usual, without any proof, that the bombing of the Syrian Abu Duhur airport was intended to thwart the transfer of weapons and the deployment of Turkish military advisers there, even before the plan was implemented. American diplomat Tom Barrack, President Donald Trump’s envoy to Syria who also serves as the US ambassador to Turkey, criticized the bombing, and said that the attack on Syria was intended for Netanyahu’s political needs and his companions.
Barak said in the interview, “One theory is that they (the Israelis) were simply trying to seduce Türkiye (to respond).” “It’s a very aggressive move, but maybe it will be well received ahead of the elections,” he said. Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued a statement in response yesterday stating that “the IDF has recommended several times to carry out the attack at the airport in light of the clear intelligence information received about Turkey’s intention to carry out actions that would endanger the security of the State of Israel.” Katz even claimed that Barak’s remarks were “full of inaccuracies.”
The Zionist army claims that intelligence information has recently accumulated about Türkiye’s plans for military deployment in the field. Türkiye Aviation has maintained a military presence in northern Syria since at least 2017 and has been heavily involved in pushing the main Syrian rebel front, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, to take control of most of the country’s territory and topple the Assad regime in Damascus by the end of 2024. Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara prefers to receive aid from the Turks without receiving direct dictates from them. which he is willing to receive from the United States.
Every week, Netanyahu and Katz threaten multiple enemies. The goal is not only to deterrence, but to create an agenda that reflects a security emergency that will serve as an excuse to postpone the elections, which, according to public opinion polls, Eisenkot will win the elections.
“In his remarks, Katz said the main lesson from October 7 is the need to act early and militarily to preempt threats. Beyond that, however, the Israeli government continues to inflame several fronts at once. Alongside Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, and the West Bank—where far-right settlers operate with government backing—the Syrian front has now added.
For now, the Americans are content with reprimands and grievances behind closed doors. Last week, there was a tense meeting between Netanyahu and the troika of Trump and the International Peace Council’s representatives to Gaza — Jared Kushner, Nickolay Mladenov and Tony Blair — but the administration has so far refrained from taking matters out.
After returning from his last visit to Washington, at the end of July, Netanyahu adopted a more restrained policy on the Gaza Strip at Trump’s request. But after about a week, he changed his mind again and allowed the attacks, and the American Zionists are mainly interested in reducing what is called “collateral damage” – the killing of civilians not involved in the attacks. Now, there are no restrictions on the continued assassinations of Hamas fighters.
The American complaints about the pogroms in the West Bank are led by the US ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee.
Iran’s response is likely to come again in the form of an intensification of military attacks on its neighbors, led by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Trump has recently completely abandoned threats to renew the military attack on Iran and is focusing on intensifying economic measures against it. But the big question is whether the economic situation is so desperate that Iran will capitulate.
Among centrists, the decline of the American empire and its failure in the war against Iran that Netanyahu convinced Trump to join the attack raises the wrong assumption that Israel controls the United States. For example, Woods’ In Defense of Marxism website contains an article titled “Does Israel control America?[i] This long article leaves the reader to come with his/her conclusion. In reality, the United States is a sinking superpower, and Israel is junior imperialism, which depends on the United States and is the front line of Western imperialism.
