More on the SWP misunderstanding what is imperialism

Yossi Schwartz ISL (RCIT section in Israel/Occupied Palestine), 24.04.2025

Comrade Michael in his excellent article on the SWP understanding what is imperialism points out that this centrist organization ignores the essential characteristic of imperialism, the exploitation and oppression of the semi-colonialist states and sees only the inter-imperialist rivalry.

As a matter of fact this organization does not ignore the semi-colonist states but relates to them as imperialist states. Take the case of Saudi Arabia, a semi colony. They write:

“Saudi Arabia, a crucial US ally and regional imperialist power in the oil-rich Gulf, condemned Trump’s plan and said it will not negotiate with Israel unless an independent state of Palestine was created. And, more importantly, Trump’s plan could ignite resistance to dictatorship and imperialism across the region” [i]

This major mistake leads them in a situation of a military conflict between an imperialist state and semi- colony to see it as an inter-imperialist clash. We saw it already in the Malvinas war.
