When Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel is in a “kind of political isolation” and will be forced to develop autarkic characteristics — that is, to produce more of the products it needs itself — because the world will refuse to sell it to us — he is in fact saying that Hamas defeated Israel not only on October 7, but also since then. Yes, Israel flattened Gaza, eliminated Hamas fighters, killed civilians, knocked down buildings, destroyed hospitals and schools — but the one who is in political isolation is Israel.
Netanyahu presents this as if it were a force majeure, and not a direct result of his actions, portraying it as a fait accompli, which increases suspicion of his true goal: a war that never ends. This is the only way he knows of to ensure his rule. In this way, he makes sure that even those who think he has lost direction will not do too much with it, because now a war is being waged.
And so Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir was dragged into the occupation of Gaza even though he thinks it is a death trap for soldiers and abductees—the commander of the Air Force, Maj. Gen. Tomer Bar was forced to bomb Qatar, even though the chief of staff, the head of the Mossad, and the head of the National Security Council thought that this was a bad timing, and that soldiers were forced to obey and fight again in Gaza City, and even endanger the lives of hostages. At the same time, their commander-in-chief believed that this was a mission that would not yield defeat to Hamas.
The failed assassination attempt of the Hamas leadership in Qatar was supposed to be his most outstanding achievement, but it did not succeed. Now, Netanyahu is looking for a grand victory in Gaza City at the cost of the lives of children, women, the elderly, soldiers, and abductees. This is the state of accumulation that will bring about a qualitative change in the elimination of the Israeli state.
“We will have to develop weapons industries here. We are going to be Athens and Super Sparta. We have no choice, at least for the next few years. We will have to defend ourselves and know how to attack our enemies. We will not be able to approve these huge projects. We need to shave the bureaucracy in a draconian way. I know that this thing will be rejected as usual. There will be a refusal from the legal side. Life is more important than the law. We don’t have time.” He describes a situation of total dictatorship and abject poverty, all to maintain his government.
“When the gods want to kill someone, they first turn him into a madman.” This is taken from the tragedy “Oedipus the King” by Sophocles, which is expressed in the fact that Zeus, the king of the gods, turned Oedipus from ruler to helpless, and sent him on a journey of self-destruction, with the gods monitoring his bitter fate from afar.
Bring down the Netanyahu government, yes!
Support for Bennet, no!
