April 17 is the Palestinian prisoner day. Since 1967, 40% of Palestinian men have been in Israeli jails at one time or another; today, close to 10,000 Palestinians are in Zionist prisons, among them 80 women and 200 children. More than 3,600 are in jail without being charged on administrative detention that can be renewed repeatedly. There are many Palestinian children whose age is less than 14 in the prisons. Palestinian prisoners are tortured, humiliated, and suffer sexual abuse.
Some prisoners have been in the Zionist prison for decades, and the most famous is the Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti – who was the co-founder of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement, also known as Fatah, the party that governs the West Bank – has been in prison for 22 years. In February, Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, announced that Barghouti had been placed in solitary confinement in February.
The Palestinian prisoners suffer from inferior medical treatment. On Monday, Israel released 150 prisoners who told of ill-treatment and lack of medical treatment. For example, Sufian Abusalah told Reuters he went to jail with healthy legs. He was tortured, and his leg was inflamed. He did not get medical treatment, and the inflammation became gangrene, and he lost his leg.
Walid Daqqa, the writer, was arrested in 1968 for killing a soldier even though it is the right of occupied people to fight with arms against the occupier. He died in the Shamir Medical Center from cancer. Even though he was dying, Israel refused to release him.
Release all Palestinian captives in Zionist prisons!
For Palestine red and free from the river to the sea!
