Talks for an agreement on the cessation of the war of imperialism with Iran have stalled for the time being

The ceasefire is a significant and tremendous achievement that attests to Iran’s victory. But he was careful to negotiate with Trump, who competes with Benito Netanyahu in his lies. Vice President J.D. Vance said Iran had chosen not to accept the U.S. conditions but did not close the door to negotiations. The different versions, the demands of each side – and is another round of negotiations expected?

Negotiations between the United States and Iran ended in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, without an agreement. Vice President J.D. Vance claimed that it was the nuclear issue that broke the talks because Iran was unwilling to accept the American conditions. The Iranians accused the United States of making excessive demands. But doesn’t that mean we’re going back to the war, since Trump needs to end the war?

U.S. Vice President Vance said the main point of contention was Iran’s refusal to abandon its nuclear program: “We need to get a commitment that it will not pursue it.”

Iran: On the other hand, media outlets affiliated with the regime said that the Americans came with “unreasonable demands.” Tehran is demanding that it manage the Strait of Hormuz itself and collect fees for passage through it – a move the Americans vehemently oppose.

Iranian sources told the New York Times that the points of contention are the opening of the Strait of Hormuz, what will be done with the enriched uranium, and Iran’s demand for a $27 billion asset freeze. According to these sources, the United States demanded the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz, a step that the Iranians refused. They said this would only happen in the final agreement. According to Iranian sources, the Americans also refused to freeze the funds intended for reconstruction. Trump, according to the Iranians, demanded that Tehran transfer – or sell – all of its stockpile of enriched uranium to 60%.

What are the terms of the United States?

 1) The opening of the Strait of Hormuz on the grounds that these are international waters.

In reality, beyond Trump’s lies, parts of the Strait of Hormuz are inside Iran’s territorial waters, while other parts are in Oman’s territorial waters.

Due to the narrow width of the strait (about 33 to 39 km at its narrowest point), it has no open “international waters”, and any vessel that crosses it necessarily passes through the territorial waters of one of these two countries. The strait connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and separates Iran in the north from the Musandam Peninsula (an Omani enclave) in the south.

According to international law (the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea – UNCLOS), a foreign vessel has the right to “innocent passage” or “transit passage” within territorial waters, as long as they do not harm the security of the coastal state.

Since Iran closed the Strait in order to stop the destruction and killing of the United States and Israel, opening the Strait without the United States committing to a peace agreement, opening it as Trump’s demand would expose Iran to the continuation of barbaric imperialist bombings, which are undoubtedly a blow to Iran’s security.

2. Enriched uranium

It can be assumed that before the attack by the two imperialist countries, Iran did not want to develop nuclear weapons, now after the attacks on Iran, the Iranian regime, which knows that if Iran had nuclear weapons, it would not have been attacked, and that the United States and Israel have nuclear weapons, and that the United States was the only country to have used these weapons so far, and in addition, provided Iraq with chemical weapons for mass destruction in the Iraq-Iran war.

3. The Continuation of the Zionist Monster’s Attacks on Lebanon

In the first ceasefire agreement, Lebanon was included at Iran’s request. Israel ignored the agreement and continued with massive bombings on Lebanon, killing hundreds of civilians. Pakistan, which was the mediator, testified that the agreement included Lebanon. Trump came out to defend Israel’s attacks with the lie that Lebanon was not included in the agreement. It is already known today, based on reports from early  April 2026, that President Donald Trump reversed his position on including Lebanon in a two-week ceasefire agreement with Iran after a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Thus, for example, we find

“Trump Agreed To Include Lebanon In Ceasefire, Then A Call From Netanyahu Changed Course“[i]

The duty of Communists is to defend Iran, not because of the reactionary regime that we do not support politically, but because Iran is a semi-colony and the US and Israel are imperialist states and the fight of the Iranians against the imperialists is a progressive fight. A victory of the oppressed nation encourages other oppressed and exploited to rise against the imperialist and the capitalist system. To refuse or take a pacifist position in such wars is a betrayal of the international working class.
