The Arab Revolution Began in Libya

The administration of US President Donald Trump is trying to save the declining empire by taking over weak countries. It promotes a despicable plan to transfer up to a million Palestinian residents from the Gaza Strip to permanent settlement in Libya. This was revealed (May 16, 2025) in an investigative report for NBC News by journalists Courtney Cube and Carol E. Lee, and Gordon Lubold.

“According to five sources familiar with the details of the move, the plan is in advanced stages of formulation and has even been presented to the Libyan leadership. In exchange for a concrete agreement to absorb the Palestinians, the administration is considering releasing billions of dollars to Libya that were frozen by the United States more than a decade ago.

According to the ranking, Libya is more corrupt than Eritrea, Equatorial Guinea, Nicaragua, Sudan, North Korea, Myanmar, Haiti and Turkmenistan.

According to a report, As part of Trump’s plan for a “post-war Gaza,” the U.S. administration wants to “rebuild the Gaza Strip and turn it into the Riviera of the Middle East,” but only after its residents are permanently transferred to other countries.

“They can’t live there anymore,” Trump said in February. “We will find them a beautiful, quiet place where they can live in safety – and not be stabbed or murdered as is happening today in Gaza.”

President Trump said on Friday that “a lot of people are starving” in the Gaza Strip under an Israeli blockade preventing aid deliveries, adding that the U.S. wanted to help alleviate the suffering. “We’re going to handle a couple of situations that you have here,” Mr. Trump said, speaking in the United Arab Emirates on the last leg of his visit to three Persian Gulf nations this week. “We’re looking at Gaza, and we got to get that taken care of. A lot of people are starving. A lot of people. There are a lot of bad things going on.”[i]

The plan includes financial incentives for Palestinians who agree to leave, including free housing, monthly allowances, and the possibility of permanent housing.

Why Libya?

Twelve years ago, in March 2011, in order to crush the Arab revolution in Libya, NATO forces led by the United States bombed Libya. They sought to overthrow the government of Muammar Gaddafi, establish a puppet regime of their choice in his place, and consolidate their control over Libya.

They attacked not only the Libyan army, but entire cities, and the Libyan people, who took up arms to defend themselves and establish a democratic regime. The French Air Force, the British Royal Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force carried out thousands of bombings throughout Libya. The U.S. and British navies fired hundreds of cruise missiles and imposed a naval blockade of Libya. The bombing and the increasing violence that followed in the following months led to the death and displacement of tens of thousands of people. In October 2011, the imperialist forces captured and murdered Gaddafi. The UN Security Council watched in silence as Libyans were brutally attacked by a coalition of greedy imperialists

Whatever his failures and support for the Western imperialists, Gaddafi has invested oil revenues in infrastructure and services that are essential to Libya, which has resulted in a significant improvement in health and standard of living.  For example, significant underground aquifers have been utilized for the ‘Great Man-Made River’ (a huge network of concrete pipes) that brought clean water to cities.  Libya, on the other hand, was one of the countries that U.S. General Wesley Clark mentioned in 2007 as a future target for regime change. It included seven countries: Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Iran and Yemen.”[ii]

The destruction of Libya was part of the U.S. strategy to remove all obstacles to the consolidation of its control: the U.S. imperialists used their monopolistic control of the media to portray any government that refused to align itself with the U.S. as “tyrants” and “murderers.” They have invented excuses such as providing “humanitarian aid”, eliminating “rogue states”, fighting the “war on terror”, and exposing “weapons of mass destruction” to carry out regime change and justify their war crimes. As a result, instead of a socialist revolution, Libya today is ranked eighth in the world in corruption – according to the 2024 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index (CPI).

It ranks 173rd out of 180 and has dropped five places in the index since 2023 with a CPI score of 13 out of 100. A scale of 0 indicates very corrupt while a scale of 100 indicates very clean.

In addition to Libya, the Trump administration has examined other countries to absorb the Palestinians, including Syria, following the ouster of Bashar al-Assad and Trump’s announcement of the renewal of diplomatic relations with the new regime of Ahmed al-Shara.

Hamas responded angrily: “The Palestinian people are rooted in their land,” said senior Hamas official Bassem Naim. “No one has the right to decide for us. We will fight until the end – this is our land.”[iii]

“But the government in western Libya is falling apart: At least nine ministers resigned from their posts on Friday amid clashes in the capital, Tripoli, Arab media reported. At the same time, thousands of demonstrators gathered in the capital’s Martyrs’ Square and called for the overthrow of the government led by Abdel Hamid al-Dabaiba and the holding of elections.

In a Facebook post, Dbeibeh’s deputy, Ramadan Abu Jannah, accused the government of corruption, declaring that he was “committed to removing the shame” and resigning.

The Minister of Local Government in the Western government, Badr al-Din al-Tumi, also announced his resignation in order to “continue the reform and stop the bloodshed.” According to him, despite many attempts to correct the course from within the government, their efforts were unsuccessful.

The government in western Libya was established in February 2021 with the aim of leading to general elections as early as December of that year. Instead, al-Dbeibah continued to hold on to power for the past four years. His government effectively operated without a mandate” [iv] and prevented a social revolution.

“The demonstrations on Friday evening broke out against the backdrop of an exchange of fire between the security forces in recent days. On Monday, a commander in the Stabilization Assistance Mechanism, Abd al-Ghani al-Kakli, was killed in an exchange of fire. As a result, the clashes escalated, which included the use of armored vehicles in the Libyan capital.”[v]

The Arab revolution that was halted broke out again, and the first after Syria is Libya. But in order to win it, it must unite with the masses in the other Arab countries and from a political revolution to proceed to a socialist revolution and the establishment of a workers’ government with the support of the peasants.

For a revolutionary Constituent Assembly!

For workers backed by the Falahin  Government!

For the Arab revolution!
