Following a torrent of condemnations from both the coalition and his fellow opposition party leaders, in an attempt to defend himself from widespread criticism over his comment that Israel was killing babies in Gaza “as a hobby.” The Democrats chairman, and former deputy chief of the army, Yair Golan, praises IDF fighters as “heroes” fighting on behalf of a “corrupt” government.
Really? Who shoots Palestinian babies? Netanyahu or the army? Who bombs schools, hospitals, ambulances, aid workers, journalists, women, and old men? Netanyahu or the army?
According to Israel Today::
“In 2007, then-Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi decided to reprimand Yair Golan and delay his promotion, due to the use of the “neighbor procedure,” the use of civilians as human shields, contrary to the norm. The heads of the Judea and Samaria settlements who worked with him in the West Bank heard from him about far-reaching plans regarding settlement in Judea and Samaria”[i] (The West Bank)
Since this information was provided by Israel Today, there was a need to check it. In the NYT we find:
“The former Israeli commander of the West Bank, Brig. Gen. Yair Golan was reprimanded after an investigation of a “human shield” episode in Nablus, in the West Bank, in March, the army said. The investigation followed the release of a tape of the incident filmed by Associated Press Television, showing a young man forced at gunpoint to lead soldiers from house to house. The army chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, also ruled that General Golan would be passed over for promotion for the next nine months. The use of Palestinians as shields by Israeli soldiers was outlawed by the Israeli Supreme Court in 2005.” [ii]
So, the real question is, what is motivating a right-wing Zionist to pretend that he is a left Zionist? Maybe to lead the Zionist left, which is very weak and grew under a leader who was a high officer in his beloved murdering army.
Israel out of Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria!
For one democratic secular state of the Israeli Jews and all the Palestinians, including the refugees!
