Drop Site News reports that Israel continues to occupy South Lebanon and shoot Lebanese who try to return home.
According to the ceasefire, which went into effect on November 27, Israel agreed to withdraw its troops from south Lebanon while Hezbollah promised to end its armed presence in the area, moving its fighters and weapons north of the Litani River.
However, while Hezbollah retreated to the north of the Litani, Israel has remained in south Lebanon, and it is shooting Lebanese who try to return to their villages in south Lebanon. Israeli troops fired on convoys of civilians that headed towards their villages on January 26. At least 27 people were killed and over 150 wounded, according to the Lebanese health ministry. Israel’s continued air and ground assaults, destruction of homes, abduction of Lebanese citizens and army soldiers, and attacks on civilians returning to their homes in the south. Israeli tanks and troops continue to occupy several villages in southern Lebanon in violation of a withdrawal deadline that expired on January 26.
The Lebanese are protesting this cruel occupation and, in the protests, sing national songs while the army shoots them.
Lebanon filed a complaint with the UN Security Council against Israel today over its repeated violations of a U.S.-brokered ceasefire agreement. However, the USA will block any action to end the occupation of South Lebanon. The U.S. has extended the deadline to February 18, leaving a group of displaced residents to set up tents and launch a sit-in protest against the occupation of their land.
Israel escalated its war on Lebanon in September after a year of cross border attacks with Hezbollah, which began firing rockets and artillery at Israeli forces one day after Israel began its genocidal assault on Gaza in solidarity with the Gazans. More than 4,000 people were killed and over 1.2 million were forcibly displaced by the Zionist assault, while large swathes of southern and eastern Lebanon were destroyed. Over 90,000 structures—including homes, businesses, agricultural facilities, schools, and water infrastructure—were damaged or destroyed by the bombardment across the country, according to the United Nations Development Program.
When the deadline expired on January 26, Israel announced its forces would remain in parts of southern Lebanon, falsely accusing Hezbollah of not sufficiently pulling back. Lebanon denied the claim and demanded that Israel honor the agreement. Over the past two months, Israel has violated the agreement hundreds of times, launching repeated attacks against what it claimed were Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.
Hundreds of thousands of displaced Lebanese who returned to parts that the Zionist monster left found massive levels of destruction. However, over 100,000 have been barred from returning, with Israeli tanks and troops continuing to occupy eight villages. Among these villages are: Kafrkela, Yaroun and Duhaira, al-Aramsha, and the people of these villages are angry with the army of Lebanon that does not protect them.
Israel out of Lebanon now!
For the Arab Revolution!
The Zionist state must be destroyed!
