“Four Palestinian prisoners, recently released as part of the sixth batch in a prisoner exchange deal with Israel, were rushed to the hospital after arriving in Ramallah due to serious health complications, a humanitarian organization said on Saturday, Anadolu reports.” [i]
In a statement, the Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed that its medical teams transferred the four freed Palestinians from the reception site in Ramallah to the hospital due to their deteriorating health conditions.
Palestinians released from Israeli jails have been subjected to hunger, physical abuse, and psychological torture in custody, with their physical appearances indicating maltreatment.
At the same time Ronen Bergman in Yediot Aharonot writes: “Lies and double play: this is how the government works to thwart phase two of the deal. Flooding the public with lies and manipulations, violating the agreement while blaming Hamas and pushing the professionals out of the negotiating team: Netanyahu is doing everything to not end the war – even at the cost of releasing the hostages who are supposed to be released in the next phase. A senior security official who is very familiar with the abductee deal said that “every time you think you can’t go any lower, neither with the lies, nor with the complete reversal of the order of priorities – first politics, then the lives of the abductees, it turns out you were wrong, that indeed it is possible. Israel has no problem accusing Hamas of violating the agreement. One of the proofs that Netanyahu is trying to thwart the deal is his statements and those of people close to him, and of ministers in the government, that Israel either intends to return to fighting or conditions its signature on the second phase on Hamas surrendering unconditionally, handing over its weapons and the Strip being demobilized – a condition of course that Hamas will not agree to. “With high words, sharp threats and violation of the agreement, Israel is moving towards its explosion and the danger of a return to fighting increases accordingly. The Prime Minister’s spokesman gave five recent examples of lies and spins all aimed at hiding the fact that Israel has no intention of signing the second phase, or even rowing in that direction.”[ii]
