600 trucks were supposed to cross daily into Gaza carrying food, medicine, tents, fuel and other basic necessities. According to Palestinian relief agencies, only a quarter of necessary aid is actually allowed to go in.
According to the UN mechanism for aid monitoring, from May to November aid trucks made it to their destinations inside Gaza; 7,127 were intercepted. The Israeli army sets restrictions on the roads that trucks can take, often forcing them to take routes leading to the powerful local families or those that collaborate with Israel against Hamas. This is how aid disappears into Gaza and is sold in the market for a very high price.
In this way Israel can claim that it sends 600 trucks with aid and at the same time starve the population of Gaza especially the two million residing on the West side of the yellow line that divides Gaza.
Human rights organizations and a UN expert have stated that Israel is using starvation as a method of warfare, which amounts to war crimes. Israel claims that the blockade is necessary for security reasons to prevent Hamas from obtaining weapons and has accused Hamas of using aid intended for civilians.
For the Palestinians to live and be free the Zionist state must be destroyed and replaced by free democratic Palestine governed by workers and Fellahin, a state to which the Palestinian refugees will return and the Jewish minority will have equal civil rights.
