The correct advice the Syrian Kurds are giving the Iranian Kurds: Do not join the US war

Yossi Schwartz ISL (RCIT section in Israel/Occupied Palestine) 09.03.2026

The Kurdish nation is divided and lives in different states because of the imperialist policy. After World War I and the partition of the Ottoman Empire, the victorious Western imperialist allies promised a Kurdistan as outlined in the 1920 Treaty of Sèvres, but it was never ratified after being signed. Three years later, when the Treaty of Lausanne set the boundaries of the Turkish state, the Western Allies turned their back on the promise for Kurdish statehood because the allies gave Turkey Anatolia while Turkey relinquished territorial claims over formerly Ottoman-ruled Arab lands. Since then, the history of the Kurds has largely been marked by struggles for independence in Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. Unfortunately for the Kurds, they have been relying on the Western imperialists that betrayed them.

Still, some of the Kurds in Iran are ready to serve the American imperialism and the Zionist settler colonialist state against Iran.

Iranian Kurdish militias based in northern Iraq have consulted with the United States in recent days about whether and how to attack security forces in western Iran, as the United States and Israel pound Iran with air strikes, Reuters has reported“[1]

“The Kurds who live in northeast Syria warned Iran’s Kurds against aligning with the US to fight the Iranian government, citing their own experience in Syria in recent months as evidence their Iranian counterparts would be abandoned.”[2]

Syrian Kurdish fighters aligned with the US more than a decade ago to fight the Islamic State group. While the Syrian Kurds have the right to defend their semi-autonomous zone in the territory, it was stupid to fight against ISIL while ISIL fought the American imperialists.

This January, Syria’s new army under President Ahmed al-Sharaa captured most of the Kurdish-held areas. Syria’s Kurds called on the US to intervene on their behalf, but were betrayed when Washington told them to give up and merge with Sharaa’s forces. It remains a bitter experience for Syria’s Kurds and a lesson for the Iranian Kurds.

Trump told Reuters on Thursday it would be “wonderful” if Kurdish forces crossed the border from northern Iraq into Iran, but declined to answer whether the US would offer them air support if they did so. On Saturday, he appeared to switch positions, telling reporters he doesn’t want Kurdish fighters going into Iran. However, Trump is changing his position every second day.

The Zionist monster has been holding its own talks with Iranian Kurdish insurgent groups based in the semi-autonomous region of Iraqi Kurdistan for around a year, Reuters reported last week. Since the 1960s, Israel has maintained discreet military, intelligence, and business ties with various Kurdish groups, related to them as a “natural ally” and a buffer against Iran and Arab nationalism. The Kurds have served the imperialists interests –  mainly the US and Israel, but were later forced to cede territory or faced attacks when international imperialist priorities shifted and the Kurds were deserted.

Those who sleep with the dogs wake up covered with fleas. The only hope for the Kurds is to be part of the victorious Arab revolution, that will begin once again as a democratic revolution but culminating with a working-class revolution that will establish the socialist federation of the Middle East. In the Socialist Federation of the Middle East there will be socialist Kurdistan.
