With the failure of Trump to impose his conditions on Iran, he decided to impose a blockade on ships coming or going to Iranian ports. He wants to save his bad name among most Americans who oppose the war on Iran, by declaring a false victory.
The American imperialists claim that no ships have made it past its blockade of Iranian ports and coastal areas in the first 24 hours of the blockade.
US Central Command says that more than 10,000 military personnel, and dozens of warships and aircraft, are involved in the blockade. It also claims that six merchant vessels “were complied with direction from US forces” to turn around and “re-enter an Iranian port. The blockade is being enforced against vessels of all nations entering or leaving Iranian ports, it claimed, and added that the “US continues to support freedom of navigation” for those not travelling to or from Iran.
However, the lie of the US has been exposed by the BBC, showing four Iran-linked ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz after the blockade began.
Trump’s blockade is going to fail for a few reasons. First of all the majority of Americans oppose the war. Secondly, the price of oil continues to go up, and Trump in an interview with Maria Bratomo of Fox news replied to her question: Do you think that the price of oil will go down before November? He said: I hope, I think it is possible but it also can go up.
Trump wants to end the war and to declare a victory, However, he has told New York Post “Something could be happening over the next two days, and we’re more inclined to go there [Pakistan].”
More important is the reaction of imperialist China. China’s foreign ministry according to the BBC said “Where relevant parties already reached a temporary ceasefire arrangement, the blockade of Iranian ports is “dangerous and irresponsible”
Clearly, the tension between the Chinese imperialist and the American imperialist is sharpening the inter imperialist rivalry.
The interest of the international working class and the oppressed is to break Trump’s blockade as part of the struggle against imperialism. The Iranian regime is a reactionary regime. And it is possible that part of the Iranian ruling class will seek a deal with Trump for profit. We do not trust the regime in Iran, nor do we think that the regime is anti-imperialist, but the war of Iran against the US and Israel is progressive one.
