The reactions of the Zionist army, Knesset members and Culture Minister Miki Zohar to the film “NAZA” winning the Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival received a wider media response than the film itself, diplomatic sources and the Foreign Ministry told Haaretz. “The Foreign Ministry source referred to the minister of culture Zohar’s call to revoke the citizenship of the film’s creators, Yuval Avraham and Rachel Shor. It would have grabbed headlines anyway, but here they really helped it. The government’s attitude to the matter attracts fire and headlines.”
The sources referred to the fact that the film has not yet received wide circulation other than and was viewed mainly by film festival goers. “I don’t think many people noticed the film,” said a diplomat from one of the EU countries, noting that it has become a major topic following the reactions to it in Israel. If it weren’t for the reactions, “only movie lovers would have been aware of the film’s existence” in his country.
At the same time, the Foreign Ministry, the Zionist army and the National Information Directorate are engaged in frantic discussions focused on preparing lies to refute the claims made in the film. It is based on the testimonies of 24 Israeli soldiers and intelligence personnel, and through them the mechanisms that enabled the mass killing of civilians in Gaza were exposed, including, among other things, the use of AI that did not distinguish between combatants and civilians.
Gone are the attempts to present Israel as a liberal democracy. It appears now as it is an imperialist settler colonialist dictatorship that commits war crimes.
