The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday night approved a proposed U.S. resolution centered on the deployment of the International Stabilization Force in Gaza. Thirteen members of the council voted in favor, China and Russia abstained and were not opposed.
At the beginning of the discussion, US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz praised without shame the proposal “outlines the possibility of Palestinian self-determination after the Palestinian Authority completes the reforms.” According to him, every day that the stabilization force does not operate, “trucks stand idle and children die of hunger.”
The resolution calls for the establishment of a “peace council” to administer the Gaza Strip on a temporary basis, until the Palestinian Authority completes the reforms in accordance with Trump’s “deal of the century” and in accordance with the Franco-Saudi initiative (New York Declaration). The proposal authorizes UN member states to establish an international stabilization force to be stationed in the Gaza Strip “under a unified command acceptable to the ‘Peace Council.'” The force will guard the Gaza Strip’s borders and disarm Hamas. It will also ensure the security of humanitarian corridors, humanitarian operations, and the residents of the Gaza Strip.
In addition, the proposal expresses support for Trump’s 20-point plan for Gaza, and calls on the World Bank to financially support the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. Amendments introduced to the proposal last week under pressure from Arab and Muslim countries, as well as pressure from several members of the Security Council, also include a mention of the possibility of establishing a Palestinian state in the future. The proposal does not subordinate the stabilization force to the Security Council, but requires the Peace Council to submit a report to the Council every six months. Needless to say the PA happily supports the plan.
On Friday, the United States and eight Arab and Muslim countries — Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia — issued an unusual joint statement in support of the U.S. decision. The countries described the move as a “viable path to peace and stability” in the region and one that includes “a path to self-determination and a Palestinian state.”
These servants of imperialism are betraying the people of Gaza and should be overthrown by a renewed Arab revolution.
Following the publication of this statement, the Palestinian Authority also issued a statement of support for the American move. The Palestinian statement said that it was important to establish the ceasefire, accelerate the entry of humanitarian aid without delay, ensure a full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and immediately begin the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.
In Israel, the decision aroused great opposition from the criminals that compose the government. Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich expressed opposition to the clause dealing with a Palestinian state. Netanyahu joined them. Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, said earlier in the conference that “the international community must commit to disarming Hamas. Israel will make sure that happens, one way or another.” The Peace Now movement exposed its ugly Zionist nature and said that today’s vote is “a historic step supported by the majority of the Israeli public and all our friends in the world. Trump also understands that a Palestinian state is good for Israel.”
Hamas rightly and bravely rejected the decision because it was incompatible with the rights and demands of the Palestinians. Hamas rejected the proposal to disarm on the grounds that opposing Israel by any means was legitimate. It also said that allocating missions to the international force inside Gaza “deprives it of its neutrality and turns it into a party in the conflict” in Israel’s favor.
There is no chance that Israel will agree to the establishment of a Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza, and even if it is established, it will be nothing more than a Bantustan with a puppet government subordinate to Israel and the United States and providing Israel with cheap labor.
Disarming Hamas will expose Gazans to pogroms by the Zionist right, with the support of the Zionist army, similar to the pogroms in Sabra and Shatila and of settlers in the West Bank on behalf of the Netanyahu government.
Dozens of settlers raided two villages in the southern West Bank on Monday, after Israeli army forces evacuated the Tzur Misgabi outpost in Gush Etzion this morning.
“A disaster, a disaster happened here – and it’s all in front of the soldiers and policemen,” a family member of the woman who was attacked in um al-Butem told Haaretz. “The settlers break, beat, burn – and they don’t do anything.” The chairman of the Jaba’a village council told the Wafa news agency that the villagers were not injured, but that the houses and vehicles that were set on fire were damaged. After the attack in Jaba’a, the IDF said that the security forces were “searching for those involved” and that the army “condemns violence of any kind and is working to enforce order in the area.” In the evening, hours after the attack in um al-Butam, the IDF announced that its forces had arrived at the scene “following a report received of a number of Palestinian vehicles that had been set on fire in the area and stone-throwing between Israeli and Palestinian civilians at the point.” The military also said that two Palestinians had been evacuated for medical treatment.
Netanyahu said that he “views the violent riots and the attempt to take the law into their own hands by a handful of extremists with great severity,” adding that he called on the law authorities to “bring the rioters to justice. I intend to deal with it personally.” Katz said that he is backing the training of the Central Command and the military forces currently operating on the ground, adding that the government “will continue to develop and grow the settlement throughout Judea and Samaria, together with the settlement leadership, while maintaining the law, the security of the residents and the stability of the area,” Katz said. “There will be no forgiveness for anyone who acts violently.”
The village of um al Butem is located at the foot of the Tzur Misgabi outpost, as well as other outposts in the vicinity – most of which were established during the war. In recent months, attacks on the village have intensified, and in October Haaretz reported that dozens of olive trees owned by residents had been cut down just before the start of the olive harvest. Local residents told Haaretz at the time that they were subjected to repeated attacks by masked men coming from the outposts up the hill. Footage from the village after the attack shows settlers watching from the ridge on the smoke rising over the village, and army forces walking around the village’s houses. One footage shows security forces blocking access to the village, with several settlers watching leisurely next to them.
A statement issued this morning by the Civil Administration said that the evacuated outpost, which according to the settlers is home to 25 families, “committed criminal acts and serious cases of crime and violence that affected the security of the area.” Since 2023, the authority to enforce the illegal construction of Israelis in the West Bank has been transferred to the Settlement Administration, which is under the authority of Minister Bezalel Smotrich. The IDF has the authority to evacuate an outpost only if it is proven that it poses a clear threat to security. Contrary to the Civil Administration’s statements, throughout the day right-wingers claimed that the outpost was being evacuated in order to preserve land reserves for settlement.
The Israel Police and the IDF announced that six suspects had been arrested after they clashed with security forces during the evacuation of the outpost. According to the statement, during the demolition of the houses, dozens of rioters barricaded themselves in the area, threw stones and iron bars at the forces, and moved tires and vehicles. The police said several Border Police soldiers were wounded, one of them in the head by a stone thrown at him.”
No to the American imperialist plan to enslave Gaza! No to the disarming of Hamas!
The Palestinian Authority is a servant of Israel and the United States!
For a democratic and red Palestine from the sea to the river!
