In recent weeks the Russian and Assadist air force stepped-up their bombardment against civilians in Syria’s southern Idlib. Furthermore, forces of Assad’s army prepared for an attack against the last remaining liberated territories in the northwest of the country.
In response, several rebel factions have joined forces and created the operation room “Deterring Aggression”. They launched a surprise offensive on 27 November and succeeded in pushing the enemy back. Already in the first 36 hours, they managed to advance more than 10 kilometers in western Aleppo province and liberated a number of towns and villages. They are now only a few kilometers away from the outskirts of Aleppo – the second largest city of Syria. Particularly remarkable, the rebel fighters have entered the strategically important town Saraqib which allows them to cut the M5 highway which links Hama with Aleppo.
The Revolutionary Communist International Tendency (RCIT) strongly welcomes the new offensive of the Syrian rebels – the first since several years! (1) We have actively supported the Syrian Revolution since the very beginning. (2)
We call all workers and popular organizations as well as left-wing parties to come out in solidarity with the liberation struggle of the Syrian people! We say: the struggle of the Syrian and the Palestinian people is one common struggle for freedom and national self-determination!
