The conversation two days ago (Tuesday) between US President Donald Trump and King Abdullah of Jordan caused a stir in the Arab world. Many regarded Abdullah’s words as “stammering” in the face of the American demand for the absorption of Palestinians in the kingdom. The king expressed his agreement on that occasion to take in 2,000 sick Gazan children, and apparently also their relatives who would accompany them. There were many in Gaza and Arab countries who saw this as “Betrayal” and so are we.
Commentator Yassin Ezz ad-Din attacked: “After leaving his meeting with Trump – King Abdullah tweeted against the deportation and in favor of rebuilding Gaza without deporting its people. In front of Trump, he behaved like a polite child and did not dare to say these things. Therefore, what he says on Twitter about what happened is worthless than what we thought. He is a soft person who can be pressured and stepped on and he will do what he is told” [i]
“The king praised Trump for his work on ensuring the ceasefire came to fruition and said as an immediate humanitarian gesture, Amman will accept 2,000 children from Gaza who have cancer or other pressing ailments for treatment.“I truly believe that with all the challenges that we have in the Middle East, that I finally see somebody that can take us across the finish line to bring stability, peace and prosperity to all of us in the region,” Abdullah added” [ii]
The Palestinian commentator Iyad al-Kara stated: “The Jordanian king did not live up to the threats faced by Jordan in dealing with the statements of Trump and Netanyahu. The situation is clearly disappointing at a time when the region needs bold decisions.” Other Palestinians from Gaza described these things as “treason” [iii]
“Meanwhile in Cairo there were those who sang about the conduct of the Jordanian ruler. “Trump set an ambush for King Abdullah of Jordan to undermine the united Arab front that rejects immigration,” explained Egyptian media woman Samia Asala, “The king was surprised at the press conference. He was embarrassed and stressed while trying to evade statements that serve the immigration project… His words revealed that Egyptian President al-Sisi is postponing his visit to the United States. Trump’s goal is to damage relations” [iv]
Not surprisingly the American imperialist NYT rushed to defend the Jordanian king. The headline reads: “Jordanian King Rebuffs Trump Proposal to Displace Palestinians from Gaza”[v]
Nor should we be surprised that the Arab local rulers support the Palestinians only with empty words as they are dependent on imperialism against their own people.
Down with all the imperialists!
For the Arab revolution!
For Palestine, red and free from the river to the sea!
