The memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, which is an American surrender agreement, even though it was clear that Trump would announce that it reflected victory, is also a failure on Netanyahu’s part. This is because he is supposed to enforce a full withdrawal of the Zionist army from southern Lebanon, contrary to the declarations of Minister Katz that Israel will remain in southern Lebanon. And the residents of South Lebanon who were expelled are returning to their villages, a large part of which are destroyed.
As far as Israel is concerned, the memorandum of understanding signed by the United States and Iran is a bad document, and in stark contrast to US President Donald Trump’s claims, this is an American surrender agreement, Tehran has provided general statements regarding its commitment not to produce nuclear weapons. In return, the United States is giving immediate goods: the lifting of the mutual blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, the rapid easing of the sanctions’ regime, and even a commitment for the future flow of $300 billion to rehabilitate the Iranian economy.
The bottom line is that Trump has folded his tail and is leaving the Gulf, and perhaps the entire region. The Gulf states have learned that the United States cannot be relied upon, and the Abraham Accords have caught fire and are likely to be replaced by the Mohammed Accords.
Trump, who apparently understands that he has failed, is angry with Netanyahu. After Netanyahu promised him an easy victory at their meeting at the White House in early February, the American president was tempted. But when expectations clashed with reality, the war dragged on, and the Iranians blocked the Strait of Hormuz (as it was said in advance that they would do, for several decades), Trump began to look for ways to get off the tall tree he climbed.
The president explained on Tuesday that “we could have bombed them for two more years,” but even then, Iran would not have withdrawn, Hormuz would have remained closed, and the oil market would not have experienced the price drop that excites Trump’s imagination. It shows that for him there had no choice but to sign. This stands in stark contrast to his frequent claims of victory.
The president’s remarks at the G7 summit in Paris, when he signed the memorandum of understanding at the Palace of Versailles, is not comfortable for Israel. His claim that Iran is also allowed to possess ballistic missiles, like its neighbors, frightens the Israelis. In the face of criticism from Israel, Trump responded in an offensive and dismissive tone. He described Netanyahu as only a junior partner and portrayed the critics of the agreement as a bunch of fools. He also had a slew of suggestions for streamlining, perhaps it would be better for Syria to deal with Hezbollah.
The fate of the 440 kilograms of uranium enriched to a high level, as well as a number of tons of low-enrichment – the memorandum of understanding is answered only in general that Iran has committed to dilute. Once Iran gets what it needs (the cessation of hostilities, the lifting of sanctions, the opening of the blockade), it will have no desire to make concessions, and Trump has no illusions about its ability to maintain an international monitoring regime over Iran’s nuclear commitments. Moreover, the war has taught Iran that it must equip itself with nuclear weapons that will deter attacks on it.
Trump is running away from the rest of the war because it is very unpopular in the United States, it has even created rifts in his support base for the MAGA movement and alienated the Gulf states.
Netanyahu knows Trump well enough to know that it is too dangerous to confront the president directly. It is not hard to imagine what would have happened if such an agreement had been signed by Joe Biden, during Naftali Bennett’s tenure as prime minister. Comparisons to the Munich Agreement of 1938 would certainly have been heard on all right-wing websites.
The Iran deal is not only a failure for Trump, but also for Netanyahu, and it is a strategic loss. worse than fleeing Lebanon in 2000. The memorandum of understanding declares a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon and recognizes Lebanon’s territorial integrity. Meanwhile, the Zionist army announced yesterday that its forces will remain in Lebanon at this stage along a line that passes about 10 kilometers north of the border. But it will run away from there too. In a series of incidents on Wednesday, a Zionist soldier was killed and 12 soldiers were wounded in the explosion of an explosive device and explosive drones. Hezbollah operates fiber optic drones with lethal effectiveness. In the meantime, the presence of the Zionist army in Lebanon sabotages the memorandum of understanding and may lead to a clash with Trump. Netanyahu claims that he saved the lives of millions of Israeli citizens by his decision to start a war against Iran in order to prevent it from acquiring nuclear weapons. He has claimed since the 1980s that Iran will have nuclear bombs within two weeks to a month. Trump announced that without him, Israel would have already been destroyed. No wonder more than 150,000 Israelis have already fled the sinking ship.
In Israel now, the propaganda is that if it weren’t for Trump, who stuck a knife in the back of the Jewish state, Israel would have won big, and therefore it is not considered Israel’s failure, but only Trump’s.
