The revolutionary wave that toppled the bloody Syrian dictator was led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and the Free Syrian Army, which took control of Damascus and ended the 24-year rule of the dictator Bashar al-Assad and the Baath Party. Hayat Tahrir al-Sham is a petty-bourgeois Islamic organization, and perhaps even a bourgeoisie. The leftist organizations that call themselves Marxists made one of two mistakes. One was to deny that there was a revolution in Syria. The second was to deny that a petit bourgeois or bourgeois organisation was incapable of carrying out a complete democratic revolution.
In the period of the decline of the capitalist system, petty-bourgeois or bourgeois organizations in countries that have not undergone the bourgeois revolution are incapable of completing the tasks of the democratic revolution. Only the working class led by a revolutionary leadership is capable of carrying out the tasks of the democratic revolution, and when it comes to power, it will continue to perform the functions of the socialist revolution. The pace of building a socialist society depends on the world revolution.
This is the theory and strategy of permanent revolution formulated by Trotsky. This strategy includes the tactics of the anti-imperialist front, which includes petty-bourgeois organisations in the struggle against imperialism and tyrannical regimes.
The tasks of the democratic revolution include an agricultural revolution, industrialization, the abolition of imperialism, and equal rights for minorities, women, and LGBT people.
The main events that led to the change of government included:
“The outbreak of the attack (November 27, 2024): The launch of the offensive deterrence operation in the area of Idlib and Aleppo.
The collapse of the Syrian army: Following the significant weakening of the axis of resistance (Hezbollah and Iran) and the appeal of imperialist Russia, which stood behind al-Assad, to war in Ukraine, the rebels advanced rapidly and conquered strategic centers
The announcement of the overthrow of the regime (December 8, 2024): The rebels took control of the capital Damascus, Bashar al-Assad lost power, and Ahmed al-Shara (Abu Muhammad al-Golani) became the central figure in the leadership of the new state.”
Since only one role of the democratic revolution was carried out – removing the dictator who fled to Moscow, the new regime is submissive to American and Zionist imperialism, which is taking over parts of Syria without the regime’s opposition.
Local sources who spoke to Haaretz point to ongoing Israeli military activity in southern Syria, including repeated incursions into its territory, the establishment of temporary checkpoints, searches in villages and agricultural areas, and the establishment of observation points on strategic ridges. Israeli activity, according to local reports, is concentrated mainly in the Daraa and Quneitra provinces, which directly border the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights. The Zionist Monster Army claims, of course, that the operation is intended to prevent security threats and keep hostile elements away from the border, and on Saturday the Zionist army announced that its forces had killed several militants in the security zone in southern Syria.
The Syrian army of the new regime is not protecting the residents of southern Syria.
Anyone familiar with the Zionist regime knows that territory occupied by Israel will not be returned unless Israel is expelled by force. The Zionist dream is the Greater Land of Israel from the Euphrates to the Nile, and that includes southern Syria.
Residents of the area told Haaretz that they feel they are in a no-man’s-land area. According to one of them, “No one is counting us, Israel wants a security zone devoid of any threat, without any commitment to the Syrian residents.” They added that the reality in southern Syria raises concerns that Israel will continue to control the territory indefinitely, when in practice there is no pressure on it to withdraw. “You have to remember that this is an area that is a periphery of the periphery, and that the central government in Damascus is not interested in and does not intend to confront the Israeli forces on the ground,” said one resident.
On Sunday, there were also reports of Israeli tanks advancing towards the village of Abidin and residents trying to prevent the forces from approaching. Syrian sources reported to Arab media that despite the incidents, indirect mediation channels between Israel and Syria are still maintained, with American mediation aimed at creating security coordination with Israel.
