Marat/Sade, is a 1967 film directed by Peter Brook, based on Peter Weiss’s play, about the French Revolution but framed as a “play within a play” performed by inmates of the Charenton Asylum, including the Marquis de Sade, recreating the assassination of the revolutionary Jean-Paul Marat.
In the movie and the play there is a character who shouts: “freedom I want my freedom”, and it turns out that he is a rapist. This character and De Sade brings to mind Trump and Netanyahu.
“Israel’s prime minister and foreign minister issued high praise to U.S. President Donald Trump following the successful operation on Saturday to capture Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro
“Israel commends the United States’ operation, led by President Trump, which acted as the leader of the free world,” GIdeon Sa’ar, the Jewish state’s top diplomat, wrote on social media. “At this historic moment, Israel stands alongside the freedom-loving Venezuelan people, who have suffered under Maduro’s illegal tyranny[i].”
Venezuela’s acting president, Delcy Rodríguez, on Sunday accused Israel of orchestrating the U.S. operation that led to the arrest of ousted leader Nicolás Maduro, describing the move as a “Zionist attack” against the country.[ii]
The kidnapped Venezuelan president is accused of conspiracy to “drug terrorism, possession of weapons and the importation of cocaine“, without any proof, and the person who will judge him is Alvin Hellerstein, an observant Jew who has ruled against Trump on the issue of immigrants. This is the “most problematic detention facility where Maduro is held, to which judges refuse to send prisoners: “A barbaric place“
“Hundreds gathered to make their voices heard opposing President Trump who took large-scale military action and captured Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. People across the United States and around the world are reacting after President Donald Trump announced a U.S. military strike on Venezuela and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife.”[iii]
These actions by Trump are an announcement that the Americas belong to him. This gun diplomacy brings to mind the politics of Theodore Roosevelt, who projected American power abroad with a robust military, said: “Speak softly and carry a big stick”. He asserted the U.S. right to intervene in Latin America, making the U.S. a “policeman” in the hemisphere.
He was awarded the Nobel Prize for peace for mediating the end of the Russo-Japanese War.
The difference between Trump to Theodore Roosevelt is that the U.S today is a decaying empire which makes it very dangerous.
As Lenin said: “For Humanity to live imperialism must die!”
